Mandatory attribute value

Hello,

I would like to force the user to fill an attribute when creating a new object. How can I do that ? I am new to DOORS, so not very familiar with DXL.

Thanks,

Servanne.

You have two options:

1. Submit an enhancement request to IBM to include a "mandatory" attribute feature. (This has probably been done 1000 times). Then you can hope and pray that IBM implements it.

2. Hire someone who knows what they are doing since you are new to DOORS.

I'll answer your question but it won't help you. You need to create a trigger that detects when the object is created and if the value for this attribute is blank then a window is displayed that forces the user to choose a value. There are a million ways to do this incorrectly, and trigger work can be tricky. But it can be done, and I've got a client where I've implemented this very feature.

Good luck.

It may be easier to have a pre-close-module trigger that disallows closing when any object has nothing for this attr value. Update the display for the first such object found.

You could, I suppose, have a default value for the attribute and don't worry about forcing the user to select something.

OK, so there is no out-of-the-box solution. Thanks for the answers !
